Online source – information that is found online.
Online databases - information gathered from Explora or Biography in Context. An online database is a credible source that contains multiple online sources such as magazines, newspapers, and peer-reviewed articles.
Quoting - When you research information and want to use the exact words from an original source, that is called quoting. You should quote material sparingly - this means in small quantities.
Quoted material in your paper is distinguished from your own words by the use of " "
or by indenting the quoted text (if quoting a longer passage).
Paraphrasing - To paraphrase is to include the ideas or information from an original source in your paper by rephrasing those ideas or information in your own words. The key to successful paraphrasing is to use as few words as possible from the original text--be mindful not to change the meaning as you rephrase--and to cite your paraphrase.
Plagiarism – when you copy something from the internet (information or an image) and you present it as your own without citing it.
Bibliographic information – when you copy something from the internet (information or an image), you need to cite it. That means to show the teacher where you found your information or your image. When you cite it, you gather bibliographic information about the source. Bibliographic information is the website author/creator’s name, the website title, the website address (URL), and the date you found the information or image, Web.
If your author has his/her own website, you may use that as a source. Please get permission from Mrs. Johnson beforehand.
