Work out these 5 problems. You will pretend you are purchasing these items from the Scholastic
Book Fair. You will have to add SALES TAX to each purchase. SALES TAX is 8.975%.
Use the Scholastic Book Fair Flyer that you were given in Library today to find the prices.
1. Hello Neighbor and Gamer Army (2 items)
2. The Baby-Sitters Club....Kristy's Big Day (1 item)
3. Roblox and Anything but Okay (2 items)
4. Where She Fell and Deep Water (2 items)
5. The Collector and Positively Izzy (2 items)
SAMPLE:
You will pretend you are purchasing these items from the Scholastic Book Fair.
You will have to add SALES TAX to each purchase. SALES TAX is 8.975%.
SAMPLE: Say you want to purchase something that cost $4.99 and something that cost $6.99.
You add them together. $4.99
+$6.99
That equals $11.98.
Then you have to add sales tax.
Taxes are collected at the federal (national), state, and local (city or town) levels. Taxes are collected by the government to raise revenue (income) to provide services. The police, fire, highway, and school departments are examples of public services provided by and paid with tax money. A sales tax is one type of tax and is calculated and collected when people purchase items or receive certain services.
Sales tax is normally a percentage. It is calculated as a percentage of the price of a good or service and is added to the purchase price of those goods and services.
Sales tax is calculated like .08975
So you take the total of the 2 items which is $11.98 and multiply by .08975
You have permission to use the calculator app on your chrome book.
Then after you multiply 11.98 X .08975
You get 1.075205 for the answer. You need to round the sales tax to the nearest tenth,
like $1.75.
Then you take your total $11.98 and add the sales tax of $1.75 which equals
$13.06
